Chas - Support
A local time tracker for macOS. Know where your hours go.
Free on the App Store.
Chas keeps time tracking simple and private: a timer in your menu bar, widgets on your desktop, entries grouped by day and week, projects, tasks, activities and tags, goals with a weekly schedule, and reports you can export or paste straight into Google Sheets. Everything is stored locally on your Mac - no cloud, no account, no tracking.
Frequently asked questions
- Where is my data stored?
- Locally on your Mac, in the app's private container. Nothing is uploaded or synced anywhere.
- How do I export or back up my data?
- Open Reports (⌘E) to export your entries as Markdown, CSV or TSV, or copy a timesheet that pastes straight into Google Sheets. For a full JSON backup, open the Data window - the Data button in the toolbar, or ⌘⇧D.
- How do I add the desktop widgets?
- Right-click your desktop, choose Edit Widgets, and find Chas. There are five: a live timer, a day progress ring, week and month overviews, and Quick Restart for recent entries.
- Why did my timer stop by itself?
- By default, Chas stops the timer when the screen locks or the Mac goes to sleep, and asks whether the time away should count as work when you're back. You can change this in Settings → Idle & Lock.
- How do I delete all my data?
- Open the Data window (⌘⇧D) → Delete All Data. This is permanent - consider a JSON backup first.
- Which macOS versions are supported?
- macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later.
